Levis Trow 100
Did my first 100 mile mtb race Sat in Levis WI. The course was pretty challenging with about 5 really tough climbs each lap. The last climb was pretty much a get off and walk the last 40 ft every time. The race was eight twelve and a half mile laps. I rode the whole race with my man Mike Minneti. We finished up 4th and 5th overall in the 100 mile solo division. Our time was 11hrs 32 mins. I’m as sore as I’ve ever been in my life. It was a beautiful day with no mechanicals and 1 minor crash.

Dirt Spanker
Went up to northern Minnesota Sunday and hit up the mtb race. I decided to give the expert race a try. Alot like A cross races in MN, the top 10-15 spots are occupied by the same names in the expert field. My goal was to finish somewhere midpack and race hard.
The start of the race was tough, as in about 2mins straight up a ski slope followed by about 5 miles of rooty singletrack. As soon as we hit the single track on the 1st lap it started raining. It rained on and off (more on than off) for the whole race. Lots of people crashing and everyone sliding around. How I slid over a root would basically determine my line. I just put my head down and rode the best I could. By the 4th lap the singletrack and the short steep climbs were so slippery. It was quite challenging. I only went down twice, which actually was pretty good all things considered.
Came home 20th overall and 9th in my age group.

50-mile Test of Endurance
Finally did a mtb race that was dry. Unfortunately, at the Mile-38 Aide Station I was too busy vomiting Perpetuem and PB & Banana sandwich to appreciate the 75F weather and blue skies.
I crawled in after 6.5 hours of racing. Short track is next week (www.PortlandRacing.com) but you better believe I can’t wait for ‘cross. Howzzit for everyone else?

So Close
I almost won the contest..
As I rolled into the parking lot for the Nature Valley crit in Mankato today – guess who was parked next to me? The Legend, Jonathan Page..If you don’t know he is, then you shouldn’t be reading this blog. I was scrambling for my camera to get a shot and he bolted off to his race start.
Where’s FPA when you need him?
