Corcorn Race 2
Fall was over quickly this year. Woke up by my 4 year old the night before the race at 3am to see snow coming down sideways. Had a feeling it was going to be a fun weekend of racing. Fitness is not where it needs to be judging by m
y results but love drifting the wheels through the slippery stuff. Erik P
Corcoran A Race – Mud, Snow, Sweat, and Gears and a Podium
A good day. Snow on the ground at the start turned into greasy mud. I usually am not a fan of “epic” conditions, but now with the right tire choice they suit me. The Dugast Rhinos stuck like velcro and shed mud like Pam. It was a race of attrition. Who could stay up right and who didn’t have a mechanical. I got a crappy start, but just kept plugging away and ended up 12th overall and 3rd in 35+.

Oregon Cyclocross Action: Alpenrose “Blind Date” #3
It was dark so there’s not much to say. I pretty much navigated by bumping into the cones– If I felt them bumping my left foot I drifted right; bumping on the right and I drifted left. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Jim had a bit of bad luck– a little chain suck resulted in a twisted chain.
Results will be posted in a day or two when OBRA makes them available. Next week we’re going to be all bling-blonged out with blinky lights and stuff.
Bay Area Super Prestige #1 @ McLaren Park
The first round of BASP is always well attended, and this year was no exception – my race (Men’s B) had 77 finishers and Men’s C had 107(!). Insane.

This course absolutely KILLS me every year… no matter how good I feel leading into it or how well I do in the flatter races, the combination of massive elevation gain and my single-ring setup pushes every shortcoming to the surface and I usually end up getting spit out back by the end. But I’ll be damned if it’s not fun as hell, even if my result did get botched (this has become an annoyingly often occurrence in the last year). Big thanks go out to the Freewheel Hayes crew for letting me share their tent and Mark, Matt and Gabe of Squadra Ovest for providing me with a brat and recovery beer after the race.
Some media from around the web:
The HUGE run-up
sandy switchbacks on the upper portion of the course
teaching the young’ns a lesson – grab the dollar, don’t bunny-hop it
racing music
As always, there’s lots more pics and video @ NCNCA Racing blog.
