White Christmas and Rome Winter Cross
As you can tell I’m trying to catch up on several weekends here at one time. As you may have noticed, the Deep South got hit with snow and we had a white Christmas. It was pretty but it really put a dent in doing much training while I was off from work. But I kept plodding along with hopes of carrying some good fitness into January.
January arrives with a blast of artic air. Rome CX#1. It was cold. But man was the course fun. My LBS and Bob Kuhn (local HUP United rider) teamed up to do a winter series again this year, and they really pulled it off. Everything ran smooth, on time, and very few glitches. They had the timing chips on the race numbers and it was great.
I had a decent start, but I was slipping and sliding from the get go. I was top three and felt good. The ground was frozen and it was hard to stay upright. I lost a couple of spots with my first power slide through the course tape. then I fought back to top 3 again, but once again slid through the course tape. I just had trouble negotiating the turns. But I really felt good. I was able to recover after the second crash, but could not see the top 3. So, I was fighting for a top 5 at that point. Traded several attacks with 3 other guys and finally ended up in 5th. I was happy with that, but was hoping for top 3.
Talk to ya’ll later.
