My first West Coast post
I recently moved to the home of cyclocross that is Portland. I’ve heard of the epicness that it brings and I’ve done a few races here in the past..but now I’ll be reporting and racing from PDX.
My first race of the season was the Molly Cameron Grand Prix
I raced in the A race today in 35+.. got the holeshot and got into a groove..too hot for cyclocross but I managed to get 4th place. The bike rode awesome, but I cracked a wheel on a rock.

Sun and beer and fun and racing. Crusade race #3
Second year at the Sherwood Equestrian Center in Sherwood. Last year it was a bumpy, horse-trodden not-quite-so-much-fun venue.
This year, however, was awesome. The promoters rearranged the course a little, graded sections, added a new run-up, and kept the leg-searing gravel road climb. Plus the new beer sponsor showed up with a few kegs and a purchase of a $5 pint glass got you free refills!
Sweet.
The course was fun (except for that run-up on lap number 5) and featured some nice flat sweeping turns and a few hairpins. I had a blast keeping the inside line and accelerating out. Pure buzz.
Will Cortez skipped the Sherwood race in favor of the NinKrossi up in Washougal, WA and really ripped the legs of the competition.
Worst Day of the Year Ride
Holstein, Frasier & I HTFU’d on Sunday to join 3,497 other riders to take a 45+ mile tour of the metro area on the statistically worst day of the year with respect to rain & temperature. It was advertised as being a 40-miler so…
Frasier found out we did almost 3500ft of climbing on what was supposed to be just a “challenging” course but totally kicked our butts…especially on the singlespeed rigs. Holstein flatted & had a pit bike handy…no joke as the course came within a block of his house. Jim was also able to set up 3 signs advertising cyclocross season along with our www.Crossniacs.com website. Nice job Holstein!
Pretty girls abound. I wish I could rock a GoPro cam to make the pic-taking go that much easier. I’ll have to settle for taking inconspicuous pics like this one to catch the pretty gals go by. Are there even any in the picture??
Turns out we didn’t need the fenders really since it rained for all of about 15% of the ride.
Jordan really needs a kit so if any of you guys have a spare you’re willing to sell before the order date later in the year, it’d be helpful (he wears a medium bib & jersey).
