Duluth Cross
Race 1: 8:15pm race under the lights. I couldn’t get motivated…I usually hit the sack at 10:00, so the idea of a late race wasn’t really my style. We raced on a cross country ski trail and it was super wet and muddy and pretty mountain-bikey – also not my style. I just sort of rolled around and finished 10th overall, 4th in 35+. I had 2 to go and I heard the bell ring a couple seconds after I went through the finish line…so I sat up and let the leader through so I didn’t have to do another lap..
Race 2: the course was more crossy and suited me a little better. I felt crusty this morning, but thanks to Houle for setting me up a with warm shower and soft bed last night..that was huge. The gun went off and the crust flew off and I settled into a second group. CJ was rocking as well and came by at one point and we worked together until he got a flat. It was me and another dude..he kept yelling at me in some foreign language on the flats.. I think he was asking me to pull through…4 laps to go we caught another guy and the pace heated up. The 2 guys I was with looked like they were young and not 35+ so with 1 lap to go and set up and let them battle it out…it ends up that the foreign guy was 35+…oh well. I rolled in 6th overall and 2nd in 35+.
Next year I’m going to Madison….
