I've got mine set up moto but I'm thinking about swapping back to conventional. I think it's best to have done all your braking before you swing your foot over for the dismount and put your hand on the top tube. If you need to trim speed at that late moment, it's bad form.

Plus, I'm riding in the drop more this year and you just don't brake from the drops after you swing your foot over.

Doesn’t this depend on which side of the bike you hop on and off of?
If you can hop off the right side, you are my hero. If you can go both ways, then you can marry my daughter.

'Non-moto' (this term is new to me). I've been able to modulate the front brake fine, and coming in hot you need the braking power anyway. I'll be looking forward to (dis) pulling a Schoening this year - I could hear him hitting the barrier all teh way across the course! :)

Doesn't this depend on which side of the bike you hop on and off of?

Since my Ritchey order has not arrived (fork, headset, compression plug, etc), I might try running the moto method.

The first time I forget and pull the right-side brake - and do a faceplant - I'll probably change it back.

if (dis) sez he aint slowing down, he aint slowing down...but if he's running the 76-spoked rims from last year's state champs-he'll be going slow enough anyways.

I run moto

my plan is to not bother slowing down into the barriers.
All the non-moto guys say this. I try not to use the brakes either, but when you are ripping down a hill at 30+ coming in HOT into a barrier if you can rock that without brakes, then you rock.

up until this year, i ran my brakes "moto". (aka backwards).

for the same reason, i didn't want to jam on the front brake while doing the delicate dance of the dismount...

this year, it'll be back to regular style braking.

why?

my plan is to not bother slowing down into the barriers.
